The only rule in life is change!

For those of you that have been following FamilyOfaVet.com since it's beginning, the
following may be a surprise :)

When Family Of a Vet (FOV) was started, we had no plans to ever become a non-profit
organization, do any sort of real fundraising, or even have any sort of presence other than
a "virtual" one on the Internet.  Really, the original idea was simply giving people a way to
find real information about all of the crap that combat can cause.  We were tired of seeing
Veterans and those that loved them falling victim of PTSD, TBI, etc.  We didn't want families
to continue being destroyed because they weren't being given any real, useful information
about how to deal with life after combat.

That original goal has not changed, but because of the needs we see everyday through
the heroes, spouses, parents, etc., that we've met through FOV, we're now changing our
method.  The website will still be here - and will continue to expand - but it will now
(hopefully) be paired with an offline presence.

So, the thing we said we wouldn't do (become a non-profit) is now what we're planning (as
soon as we can raise the needed funds).

The plan is, through that non-profit, to start a grass roots education campaign.  A
campaign that will focus on giving Veterans, their loved ones, and concerned members of
their communities the information needed to survive and thrive after combat.

When it all comes down to it, this site started because of the pain, heart break and
bewilderment of one Veteran's wife (me).  PTSD and TBI were killing our family - and
despite my best efforts to find help for my hubby and for our family, I was failing.  All of our
personal struggles were just made worse by the fact that true, worthwhile information about
what was happening and how to handle it was almost impossible to find.

That struggle birthed in me a determination that just grows every time I talk with someone
who is facing the same struggles.  It's a determination that we've got to fix this - we've got
to figure out how to cope and survive.  No one else is going to do it for us.  We'll die waiting
for the VA, the military, the government to wake up and address the real needs.  We've got
to step up and start helping each other learn how to manage.  Our lives may never be
"perfect" or even "normal" - but they are well worth fighting for!

At this point, here's the short list of what we need help with to take this next step -

* Just the federal (IRS) filing fee for non-profit status is $400.  If 40 people will give $10 or
100 people will give $4, it will be covered.
CLICK HERE to donate via PayPal (Sorry!  It
won't be tax deductible since we're not a non-profit yet!)

* If you would like to spearhead an education outreach for Veterans, loved ones, and
members of your community, please send an e-mail to Brannan -at- FamilyOfaVet.com.

*If you would like to write for this site, please send an e-mail to our Contributions
Coordinator, Heather Hummert at Heather -at- FamilyOfaVet.com.

We appreciate anything you can do to help.  Thanks for listening and for helping us take
the next step!

Warm regards,
