FamilyOfaVet - Real world info about PTSD, TBI, & life after combat
FamilyOfaVet - Real World info about PTSD, TBI, & life after combat.
Hi -

My name is Brannan.  And if you've come to this page the very first thing I'm going to say is
thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you (and I'd say it a hundred more times if I didn't
think that might make you decide to leave :) ).

I started this website almost four years ago.  It was a "one woman show".  I did the site
design, marketing, answered e-mails, ran the blogs, wrote the content, etc., etc., etc.  I still
do a lot of it, but thankfully over the years have found some kind, like-minded people to
help.

Here's the problem.  If you're on this site, you know there are a lot of "us"... veterans,
spouses, kids, parents, loved ones, friends... who are out there trying to figure out life after
combat.  How to survive PTSD.  How to cope with TBI.  How to get on with life (and not just
make it through, but actually make it good).

What we hope to do is help ourselves... and help a lot of "ourselves"... by providing real-
world, plain language education on a larger scale.  We want to reach out.  We want to
expand.  We want to help more people.  But it's a big dream... and it's a dream that needs
help.

So, that's where you come in, if you can give us some time... a little bit or a lot... whatever
you can manage... that would be great.  Simply click on the "Join The Team" link below and
you'll be taken to a signup form.  It may seem a little silly, but the answers will let us know
which projects are perfect for you from the standpoint of time, location, and interests.

And, in case you didn't hear it the first time, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you :o)

Sincerely,
Brannan Vines

say about their work with Family Of a Vet!!

I just love being a part of this wonderful group and page. It helps me alot with my PTSD. If
you need help as a veteran or spouse this is your one stop shop. Or if you just need
someone to talk to. We are all here for you!!!! -Vince

Writing has been my outlet in many things that I have faced in life. I never thought it would
lead me to this amazing team of people that understand how I feel and what I am going
through without me having to elaborate other than it's just one of "those" days or I am in a
"funk". I love the work I do and the ability to help others who are going through PTSD or a
family member with it. I feel that if our words can reach out and touch one person or a
thousand, then we have done our job well. I have already formed bonds with people that I
have met off of here and could not be anymore thankful that I am right now to have these
amazing people as apart of my life. No one is ever here to judge, only to listen and help.
We would love to have more people join our team of volunteers! We can never have to
many advocates for the things we experience and battle! My goal is to reach out to as
many people as I possibly can and to let everyone know they are never alone in this life. As
said before, we are all here for anyone that is willing to donate their time or that just wants
to talk! -Brittney

I agree that writing has been my outlet, especially writing for the FOV blog. I love being a
part of something that can touch so many people and being "around" spouses who are
dealing with the same issues is an amazing gift. -Jenny

I love working with FOV. It has really helped me realize that I'm not alone in the world of
PTSD & TBI. I think us as caregivers can get so consumed and exhausted with taking care
of our vet and all of the other responsibilities on top of that....I know I did and I lost myself
in the process. I'm able to find myself again by helping others, relating, and sharing. I have
a greater purpose and it feels good. The world needs to know what to be prepared for
when our military men and women come home from war. We can do great things by
educating, sharing, and even possibly preventing PTSD. I ♥ FOV :0) -Serena
