This survey isn't being conducted by some big company or group. No "deep pockets"
paying our salary. Nope... we're just a small group of OIF/OEF Vet Wives. We're doing
this because we love our heroes and their families and we want to make life better for all
who have proudly served our military.
So, what's the point?? The point is to get enough people to participate that it's
impossible for anyone to ignore the growing crisis among Vet families. There are too many
families that are coping with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), TBI (Traumatic Brain
Injury) and other combat-related challenges that are falling apart. Vet families need and
deserve better. We need more information, more resources, and better, faster benefits.
We need REAL WORLD help... not just more studies and fact sheets and smoke up our
Did you think you were alone? Not by a l-o-n-g shot. There are a lot of studies flying
around right now about PTSD and TBI. All of them basically say the same thing. Here are
a few quick facts & figures...
Estimates are that about 300,000 Veterans are going to be diagnosed with PTSD in the
next few years. Without the right help and support, 78% of families faced with Combat
PTSD will end up torn apart. Without proper counseling and treatment, 92% of Veterans
with Combat PTSD will end up verbally abusing their spouse or children (and in 42% of
households things will progress to physical abuse). And, without access to worthwhile
information and help, 39% of those who live with a Veteran suffering from PTSD will
develop Secondary PTSD.
As far as TBI - Experts have estimated that 33% of all Veterans who have served in Iraq or
Afghanistan have TBI. If we do some quick math... 2 million heroes x 33% = 660,000
Veterans who have sustained a traumatic brain injury. That's not only bad from a
short-term perspective (because TBI causes a wide variety of difficulties in everyday life),
but also from a long-perspective. Why? Because TBI has been shown to cause or worsen
many diseases that affect the respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and neurological systems.
If our heroes aren't properly diagnosed, they're not going to receive follow-up care and
screening, which means they're in BIG trouble in the long run.
Are we trying to scare you? Heck no. We're trying to prove to you in a few hundred
words that all of us, every Veteran, spouse, child, parent, etc., have to stand up and be
counted. We have to take action now to make sure that our families have the resources
we need to survive and thrive after combat. Military families don't quit when the going gets
tough... we adapt, we make changes, and we take ground!
So, please TAKE THE SURVEY and then TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW ABOUT IT.
Seriously, tell everyone, even those that aren't current or prior military, and ask them to tell
people. Everyone knows someone this survey will apply to!
In the end, we're going to use all of your answers to put together a packet which will be
sent to each and every member of Congress and as many members of the media as we
can get to listen. We're going to make sure everyone knows what we need and then we're
going to push to make it happen! But we're all out of luck without your participation!!!
